It was not the thought of diving with one of the world’s most feared predators that had Dr Craig O’Connell worried as he boarded his flight to Australia.
The New York based marine biologist was heading to Salisbury Island, about 60 kilometres off the south coast of Western Australia, to present a documentary for Discovery Channel’s USA Shark Week 2020.
But the Australian film crew he was meeting wanted the movie made without using bait— which set it apart from any shark documentary he had worked on previously.
“I’ve never done that or heard about that in my entire life,” Dr O’Connell told the ABC.
“I completely respected their approach.
